Advanced medicine and Internal medicine
This section covers a broad range of topics including immune mediated disease, canine lymphoma and basic tips on management of common endocrine disorders. The pathogenesis of an immune-mediated disease caused by infection and genetic problems, immunotherapy, and the diagnosis and management of canine lymphoma will be reviewed. The practical approach of immunotherapy in small animal patient will be updated followed by the current uses of molecular genetics as ancillary support in criminal investigation at the veterinary school in Thailand.

Anesthesiology
Anesthesia is critical for safe surgery and invasive diagnostics. Inappropriate methods and drugs will lead to the death of the patient. This topic will focus on how to avoid anesthetic disasters, anesthesia of the critically ill patient and analgesia for critical patients. Enhance your knowledge and learn the right techniques to apply to your patients.

Behavior
Did you know that the largest cause of euthanasia of pets is due to their behavior? So how can you help your clients and their pets live happily together? Do you know what to tell your clients when they come to you for advice on how to handle their aggressive dog or their anxious cat? These topics as well as how to prevent some problem behaviors developing will be discussed.

Cardiology & Pulmonary
This session presents basic and advanced knowledge about cardiopulmonary disease including ACE-inhibition in mitral regurgitation without heart failure, mitral regurgitation, feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, cardiac pacemaker, therapy in bradyarrhythmic dogs and cats and the use of cardiac biomarkers for early detection of heart diseases in small animals. These topics are well suited for general practitioners who want to gain expertise in this field.

Clinical Pathology
This session focuses on the interpretation of laboratory data. It starts with the evaluation of the blood smear which is the gold standard for accurate hematological evaluation. This will be followed by a session on the laboratory evaluation of effusion. A State of the Art lecture ends the session, illustrating the art of the interpretation in clinical pathology.

Culture and Belief Affect on Practice
This session will discuss and elaborate why and how different cultures and beliefs impact veterinary practice and animal health disease, prevention and control.

Dermatology
Skin problems are a daily challenge in small animal practice. Recent findings are changing the way we diagnose and treat infections and infestations such as staphylococcal pyoderma, yeast overgrowth, dermatophytosis, and generalized demodicosis. These sessions will focus on a practical update on current management of these important and common skin conditions.

Three important areas affecting feline health will be the focus of the feline medicine stream – gastroenterology, infectious diseases and genetic disorders. Delivered by experts in their field, these exciting lectures will update your knowledge and enhance your understanding of key issues in a range of topics including feline vaccination and flea-borne diseases. New information will help you develop a thorough diagnostic and practical approach to infectious diarrhoea in cats. Continuing with the gastroenterology focus, the diagnosis and treatment of low-grade and high-grade alimentary lymphoma, now recognized as the most common form of lymphoma in cats, will be presented. Finally, genetic diseases of cats are increasingly recognized. New diagnostic tools enabling early diagnosis and management strategies through informed breeding programs will be discussed.

Gastroenterology
Gastrointestinal diseases are one of the most common problems in veterinary practice. The lecture topics include: an approach to the gastrointestinal case and the formulation of a differential diagnosis, an update on the immunopathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease, problems with gastrointestinal gas, inflammatory bowel disease - from benchtop to bedside and rational selection of diagnostic tests for diarrhea in dogs and cats.

Neurology / Imaging
An intensive stream of neurology and diagnostic imaging will present the basic and practical application of CT and MRI in small animals and the application of diagnostic ultrasound in practice.

Support your treatment with proper nutritional management. Drugs alone may not help to improve your patients. Learn how to select the best nutrients with these topics: nutritional management of acute pancreatitis, diet and dental disease, the use of fatty acids in practice and nutritional management of the critical patient.

Ophthalmology
An overview of the major ocular diseases seen in practice will be presented. This session will lift the mysticism that surrounds the subject through a simplistic and practical approach to diagnosis and therapeutics.

The importance of orthopedic surgery in small animal practice is increasing.
The two main parts of orthopedics are joint surgery and fracture fixation.
The lectures in this part of the program will highlight these aspects with presentations on fracture repair, complications of orthopedic surgery, the management of medial patellar luxations and hip laxity.

Rehabilitation |
|
The benefits of structured rehabilitation after surgery for human patients are well-established – better and faster return of function. In these lectures we look at the techniques available for rehabilitation in dogs and the how, when and why of their use.

Revolutionizing Asian Veterinary Education
In ever increasingly tensed societies, companion animals hold more and more significant stake on human solace. Animal health and welfare, hence, become focal concerns of numerous populaces. People demand more specialized and sophisticated treatment options for their beloved companion. The veterinary education in Asia must be revolutionized and conformed to such needs, especially at the professional board certified level. The FASAVA 2009 provides an excellent platform where prominent scholars and practitioners will share their vision, wisdom and experiences on how the Asian educational institutions may collaboratively establish and deliver training curricula for board certification in veterinary practices.

Soft Tissue Surgery& Oncology
New developments in soft tissue surgery
The soft tissue surgeon is confronted with innovations on a regular basis and should be prepared to adapt accordingly. This stream will focus on practical topics for the veterinary surgeon including laser surgery, novel treatment of malignant skin tumours and anesthetic challenges.

Improve the outcome of your patients with early recognition and therapeutic management of both acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease. Learn the implications and management of proteinuria, a frequently recognized and contributing factor in chronic kidney disease. For more sophisticated management of your patients, dispel the mystery around management of concurrent congestive heart failure with chronic kidney disease and learn the special role of concurrent hypertension in cats with chronic kidney disease. Bring yourself to the cutting edge of knowledge regarding the most common lower urinary tract conditions causing patients to be presented for care: complicated urinary tract infections and urinary incontinence. Finally, learn minimally invasive techniques to address non-soluble and therefore most difficult to manage calcium oxalate uroliths.

Zoonotic and Parasitic Diseases
This subject is for veterinary and medical professionals and scientists who work in tropical regions. The latest advances in many aspects of infectious diseases will be presented. Topics covered include the progress toward development of vaccines to control ticks and tick-borne pathogens, canine brucellosis in Thailand , diagnosis of parasitic disease, and emerging parasitic zoonoses. The session will conclude with reflections of a parasitologist on what is needed to achieve balance in preclinical veterinary education.

Basic to our daily work with animals is considered from a practical perspective. We look at pain control in daily veterinary work and how to educate people in ways to deal with the problems associated with aggression in dogs. We also consider how different cultural and religious backgrounds influence our attitudes to euthanasia, often necessary for the welfare of the animals under our care.
