After graduating from Oklahoma State University in 1981, Dr. Lappin completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Georgia . After 2 years in a small animal practice in Los Angeles , he returned to the university of Georgia where he completed a small animal internal medicine residency and a PhD in Parasitology. Dr. Lappin was board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal medicine in 1987. He is currently Professor of Small Animal Internal Medicine at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University and is the section head of Small Animal Internal Medicine. Dr. Lappin studies feline infectious diseases and is the author of more than 175 research papers and book chapters. His principal areas of interest are prevention of infectious diseases, the upper respiratory disease complex, infectious causes of fever, infectious causes of diarrhea, and zoonoses of cats. Dr. Lappin on the editorial board of Feline Medicine and Surgery and Compendium for Continuing Education for the Practicing Veterinarian and is the editor of the textbook, Feline Internal Medicine Secrets. Dr. Lappin has received the Beecham Research Award and the Norden distinguished Teaching Award. Dr. Lappin is the Kenneth W. Smith Professor in Small Animal Clinical Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University and is currently the Assistant Department Head for Research. He was the chairperson of the AAFP Panel on Feline Zoonoses and the AAFP Bartonella Panel Report. Dr. Lappin is the director of the “Center for Companion Animal Studies.”

After his PhD, he joined Oncology Section at Department of Surgery, School of Veterinary Medicine and studied molecular biology and immunology for a period of 3 years. Roger Edward Clarke graduated from the University of Queensland and finished BVSc in 1964. Dr Clarke has made a very significant contribution to the profession at State, National and International levels. He has been an active member of the Australian Veterinary Association and its Divisions and Special Interest Groups since 1964. He has served on numerous committees, including periods as Secretary and as President of the Melbourne Metropolitan Practitioners’ Branch, as President of the Australian Small Animal Veterinary Association, and as National President of the Australian Veterinary Association.He has been Australian national representative to the World Small Animal Veterinary Association since 1980, Convener of their Committee on Companion Animal Welfare since 1994 and Convener of Continuing Education in Asia and the Pacific since 1996. In 2002, he was awarded the Association’s Waltham Award for Service to the Profession for his work in continuing education. In recognition of his substantial contribution to veterinary science in Australia and Asia , Dr. Roger Clarke is a very worthy recipient of the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Science (honoris causa).

Ray Qualified as a veterinarian from Cambridge University in 1976, and is a partner of the Wylie Veterinary Centre, a large companion animal hospital in Upminster, Esssex. He is a Past President of both the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) and the Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (FECAVA). He received the WSAVA Award for service to the profession in 2001and the Alf Wight Memorial Award for Animal Welfare by the BSAVA/Blue Cross in 2007.

As well as working in his clinic, he is currently a veterinary advisor of the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) and  a founding Board Member of the Alliance for Rabies Control and the Blue Dog Trust (A multidiscipline project to reduce the incidence of dog bite injuries in young children). Dr. Don J. Harris graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1980. His practice became exclusively avian in 1990, and he opened Miami's first exotics-only veterinary hospital, Avian & Exotic Animal Medical Center, in 1996. He maintains an extensive network with leaders in exotic animal medicine both nationally and internationally. Avian & Exotic serves as a point of contact between the hospital's clients and the worldwide authorities on practically any situation involving exotic pets. Dr. Harris received the Outstanding Service Award from the Association of Avian Veterinarians in 1986, the Speaker of the Year Award from the North American Veterinary Conference in 1997, and many other commendations over the years from various colleges and associations. Dr Guerrero received his veterinary degree from the University of San Marcos in Lima, Peru. He obtained the MSc and PhD degrees at the University of Illinois. He is a Diplomate of the European Veterinary Parasitology College since 2003. During his career Dr. Guerrero spent 28 years in research, development and general management in two pharmaceutical companies: Johnson and Johnson and Merck and co, Inc. He also taught different subjects in Universities in Brazil, Peru and the USA and has been a visiting professor in Europe and South America. He is the recipient of numerous awards among them the Distinguished Veterinary Parasitologists Award for 2005 granted by the American Association of Veterinary Parasitologists. A graduate of the Royal Veterinary College, London, Peter Bedford was the GDBA Professor of Canine Medicine and Surgery at the College (1992 to 2002) and Head of the Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery (1996 to 2002). Currently he is the Emeritus Professor of Veterinary Ophthalmology (London University), working at the RVC and in private practice primarily in ophthalmology in all domestic species. He gained his PhD for studies on canine glaucoma and his RCVS Fellowship for work on aqueous dynamics. His interest include all aspects of veterinary and comparative ophthalmology, and current research includes angle by pass surgery for the treatment of canine glaucoma, the aetiology of retinal pigment epithelial dystrophy and inherited disease in the dog.

From 1972 to present, Dr. Thompson has been actively involved in veterinary activities and veterinary organizations. He has also postdoctoral research on application of iso-electric focusing in the specification of the cestode parsite echinococcus granulosus and research on immunoprophylaxis and immunotherapy of larval cestcode infections. Dr. Katsuyoshi Nagaoka received his Doctorate from the Nihon University, Tokyo, Japan in 1964.  After that, he runs his veterinary clinic and working as a veterinarian over 40 years.  His research interest includes orthopedic surgery, especially joint surgery in small animals.  He studied surgical redressment of patellar luxation in dogs and received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in May 1998.  Dr. Nagaoka is an adjunct professor at the Nihon University and working as an orthopedic surgeon since 1997.  He is also an affiliate professor at the Seoul National University, South Korea, teaching in orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation since 2004.  He is published several books and journals, and continues to speak internationally.  Dr. Katsuyoshi Nagaoka was a founder and a former president of the Japanese Society of Veterinary Orthopedics (JSVO) in Japan Small Animal Veterinary Association (JSAVA).  He received his diplomate status with the Japanese College of Veterinary Surgeons in April 2008.

Jolle Kirpensteijn graduated from the Utrecht University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Holland in 1988 and finished and internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Georgia in the United States of America in 1989. After his internship, he completed his residency training in small animal surgery and a Masters degree at Kansas State University, USA. The residency was followed by a fellowship in surgical oncology at the Colorado State University Comparative Oncology Unit, USA. In 1993, Jolle returned to Europe to accept a position in surgical oncology and soft tissue surgery at the Utrecht University.  His main clinical and research interests are surgical oncology, endoscopic and reconstructive surgery. Biographical Information
Michael Day qualified as a veterinary surgeon from Murdoch University ( Western Australia ) in 1982. After a period in small animal practice he returned to Murdoch to complete a Residency in Microbiology and Immunology, and a PhD involving collaborative research with the Royal Perth Hospital. Michael held postdoctoral positions in experimental immunology at the Universities of Bristol and Oxford. His research interests cover experimental models of autoimmunity and a range of companion animal immune-mediated and infectious diseases.

 
     
   
 
Dwight Douglas Bowman

Biographical Information
Dr. Bowman gained his Bachelor of Arts major in Biology at Hiram College, Hiram, Ohio in the year 1974. He further moved for his masters major in Parasitology at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana in the year 1976. His doctorate degree major in Parasitology was finished in the same university in the year 1983. He was involved in researches from 1977 to 1987 concentrating on Parasitology and Pathobiological Science. He then transferred to Wisconsin in the year 1987 of his postdoctoral. Biographical Information
Dr. Chauvet received her Doctorate from the University of Saskatchewan, in Canada, in 1990. She completed an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Illinois, and a residency in Neurology/Neurosurgery at the prestigious University of California, in Davis. She received her diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1995. From 1994 to 1999, Dr. Chauvet was a professor at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, as well as involved in gene therapy research for brain cancer. In 1998, she developed an international course in Basic Science in Veterinary and Comparative Neurology and Neurosurgery.

Dr. Mary Christopher is Professor and Chief of Service of clinical pathology at the University of California-Davis. She graduated from Iowa State University (DVM) and completed her PhD and NIH postdoctoral training at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Christopher’s research interests include red cells, diagnostic clinical pathology, wildlife clinical pathology, laboratory and pathology informatics, and veterinary medical education. She is board-certified in clinical pathology by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists and is also a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology.

 
     
   
 

Douglas J. DeBoer

Biographical Information
Dr. DeBoer is a 1981 graduate of the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California-Davis.  He completed an internship at Michigan State University, and was in private general practice for 2 years in northern California.  He returned to UC Davis in 1984 for residency training in dermatology.  Dr. DeBoer’s research and clinical interests center on the immunology of recurrent and chronic skin diseases, with a focus on canine allergic skin diseases and feline dermatophytosis.  He received the ACVD Award of Excellence for Contributions to Science and Education in 2003.  Dr. DeBoer has served on the scientific editorial boards of the American Journal of Veterinary Research and Veterinary Dermatology, and currently serves on the International Task Force on Canine Atopic Dermatitis.  He is the author of over 100 published research studies, clinical papers, and book chapters.

Dr. Mark Kittleson is Professor and Chief of Service of Cardiology at the University of California, Davis. He graduated from the University of Minnesota (DVM). Dr. Kittleson is the co-discoverer of taurine deficiency as the cause of dilated cardiomyopathy in cats and was the first to co-discover a mutational cause of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in cats. His research interests include feline and canine cardiomyopathies and the pathophysiology and treatment of heart failure. Dr. Kittleson is the primary author of the textbook Small Animal Cardiovascular Medicine and he is the author of the Case Studies in Small Animal Cardiovascular Medicine.

Dr. Stan Marks graduated from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 1986 and completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1987. Dr. Marks received his PhD degree in Nutrition from the University of California, Davis, where he is currently a Professor in the Department of Medicine and Epidemiology. Dr. Sathaporn Jittapalapong is an Associate Professor and Chairperson of Department of Parasitology at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Kasetsart University. He graduated from Kasetsart University (B.Sc. and D.V.M) in 1983. His research interests include parasitic diseases in companion and food animals, parasitic zoonoses, arthropod-borne diseases and anti-tick vaccine. He is also the author of more than 40 publications and has more than 70 presentations worldwide. She was trained at Small Animal Theriogenology Clinic, at College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Minnesota during 1995-1997. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Theerapol received his DVM from Kasetsart University, Thailand in 1986.  In 1992-1998, he has got King scholarship for graduate study in US.  He received his PhD. with Research excellent award from Department of Veterinary Pathology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Iowa State University, US in 1998.  Dr. Theerapol is an Associate Professor at Department of Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Kasetsart University, teaching in pathology, molecular pathology and molecular biology for the veterinary and graduate students. His researches were involved in molecular diagnosis of small animal infectious diseases, protein expression and vaccine development and phylogenetic study and forensic DNA of domestic animal and wildlife.  He has got Charles Louis Davis Award in 1995. For his administrative jobs, he has been head of molecular diagnostic laboratory since 2000 and an assistant dean for services since 2006.

Dr. Naris Thengchaisri is an Assistant Professor and a small animal surgeon at Kasetsart University Small Animal Teaching hospical, Bangkok. He graduated his DVM from Kasetsart University (first class honor) in 1997. He received a scholarship from Anandhamahidol foundation (King Scholarship) for his PhD at Texas A&M University Health Science Center with Prof. Lih Kuo. During his PhD study, he also worked in Theresa W. Fossum’s laboratory. After his PhD, he took his postdoctoral training at John Hopkins University. Dr. Thengchaisri’s research interests include small animal orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, post-operative analgesia and microcirculation.

Biographical Information Dr. Beasley graduated from Purdue, School of Veterinary Medicine. He then completed a residency and PhD in toxicology at the University of Illinois, and has served as Assistant, Associate and Full Professor, and Chair of Pharmacology and Toxicology. His expertise involves veterinary, wildlife, and ecological toxicology.   His research has addressed mycotoxins, pathophysiology, and lesions of T-2 toxin and the pathophysiology of fumonisin B1. He is the author of  10 publications and his major research thrust currently is on causes of amphibian declines and contaminants. Dr. Beasley is the Executive Director of the Envirovet Program in Wildlife and Ecosystem Health in multiple locations in the USA and Africa, and is also affiliated with the Envirovet Baltic program in Northern Europe.
